I am an Assistant Professor at American River College, where I teach Computer and Information Science courses in programming, problem solving, and web development. I earned my Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Iowa, advised by Prof. Padmini Srinivasan. My background spans teaching, software engineering, and applied machine learning, including my recent role as a Data Scientist and Technical Lead at UC Davis Health.

Nice to Meet You

Originally from Pakistan, I moved to the United States to study computer science at Michigan State University. I began my industry career at Broadcom, first as an intern and later as a system test engineer, before joining Qualcomm as a senior software engineer. In these roles, I developed automation frameworks for testing mobile phone chips and gained experience solving practical engineering challenges.

My interest in research led me to the University of Iowa, where I completed my Ph.D. in Computer Science in December 2023. My doctoral research explored prescribing patterns in patient health data. During my studies, I also completed internships at Procter & Gamble, developing tools to categorize and search consumer feedback, and at Mayo Clinic, evaluating aspect-based sentiment analysis methods for patient narratives.

More recently, I worked at UC Davis Health as a Data Scientist and Technical Lead, supporting clinical and biomedical research through data analysis, research computing, and collaboration between research and IT teams. Today, at American River College, I draw on my industry and research experience to help students build practical programming and problem-solving skills.

Outside work, I enjoy cooking for my family, arts and crafts, and traveling. I love discovering new places and learning about different cultures and perspectives.
